RDA National exists to support the Member Groups and Volunteers that make up the organisation. RDAA does this in three specific ways:
- Provides support & development for Members & Volunteers
- Provides support for Participants
- Promotes specific activities within the organisation
Support and development of Member Groups and volunteers
- training structures & programmes
- rigorous quality assurance system across all Member groups
- support & advice on governance & legal issues
- help & support with volunteering issues

- representation of our Member Groups within other bodies
- negotiation & provision of insurance for our Members’ activities

Support for Participants
- Advice & help with obtaining special equipment
- A system of training progression from beginner, through a series of Proficiency tests
- Access to our Education programme, which allows riders and drivers to gain an externally accredited qualification to validate their achievements
- RDAA runs the RDA National Championships – Australia’s biggest single competitive event in equestrian events for riders with disabilities
- RDAA represents the needs of our participants within National bodies, such as EFA, Australian Sports Commission, Australian Paralympic Committee and Pony Club Australia
Specific Activities
- Defining standards & guidelines for activities, with the emphasis on the special needs of our participants
- Promotion of new areas of activity (e.g. vaulting & hippotherapy)
Other Activities
In support of our activities above, RDA National also carries out the following additional activities:
- Communications – both internally, to our own Groups and externally, to promote the work of the Association
- Managing the data and IT for the National Association

Members Resources
RDAA Coach Education System
RDA riding coaches are qualified under the National Coaching Accreditation Scheme (NCAS). They have skills in horsemastership, safety, medical knowledge, first aid, teaching, selection and training of horses. Many are also highly qualified and experienced in other professions including special education, physiotherapy and other Para-medical fields.
RDAA provides training to its volunteers/coaches through an accredited coaching training system in 3 progressive stages:
Orientation to Coaching (OTC)
Level 1
Level 2

Coaches Portal
A new secure online coaches’ portal is currently being developed for the RDAA national website with a grant from The Myer Foundation and The Sidney Myer Fund Capacity Building Grant ‘Celebrating our Partners Project’. This dedicated website has been designed to support the work and development of RDA volunteers/coaches who deliver the vital services of RDA.

Coaches Newsletter
A national coaches’ newsletter is to be produced and will be available to download on the secure coaches’ portal for all RDA coaches. This newsletter will keep RDA Coaches up-to-date on latest training opportunities, events, and legislation issues.

The RDAA national website is produced and managed by national office to provide online resources and information to its members, volunteers, funders and supporters.
