We are delighted to announce that Riding for the Disabled Association of Australia and the Australian Pony Club Council have been awarded funding from the Australian Sports Commission through Project CONNECT. Funding will be used for both organisations to work together to develop pathways and opportunities for riders with a disability within their collective organisations. Through Project CONNECT a pathway outlining how riders with a disability move from grass roots participation to elite level competition will be developed and can be modeled within other equestrian organisations.
While RDA & the APC already work closely together, Project CONNECT will help to formalise and enhance this relationship at all levels of the organisations. The disability action plan, which has been endorsed by the ASC and APC, will be the foundation of the framework by which each organisation assesses their needs. The Disability Standards cover four key areas: Disability Education, Accreditation, Classification and Athlete support. By working together with Project CONNECT RDAA and the APCC will be able to breakdown existing barriers and create more pathways for athletes with disabilities across both organisations.
