AWARENESS WEEK

WHAT IS IT?
The period surrounding the traditional horses’ birthday (August 1) has long been designated by RDA as the time to generate greater awareness among the community about the work of Riding for the Disabled Association.Throughout the land, different centres, branches, groups and state bodies use different methods to involve their local community: Methods such as Open Days, Gymkhanas, school visits, Straddle-A-Saddle activities, demonstrations and other fundraising activities. Every activity that brings RDA to the attention of a community member not previously familiar with our work has achieved the objective of Awareness Week. The hope is that some, though not all, of those activities will also generate financial or personal support for one or more aspects of RDA.

WHEN IS IT?
As noted above, we take advantage of the well known horses’ birthday, and centre our activities around August 1st. Awareness Week this year is therefore
July 27th – August 4th.

WHO BENEFITS ?
The intention is that RDA participants, committees, state and national bodies ALL benefit. We all benefit from increased community understanding and (hopefully) support. The support may arrive in the form of volunteers, supplies or simply cash! And it can arrive at all levels of RDA – so the benefit can be shared up and down the line.
